Code Mixing As Woman Identity: A Case on Instagram Captions of Influencer
This paper deals with the fact that special code mixing is used by every people for their caption. Include the Influencer. They promoting the products on Instagram using unique, chic, and fancy captions that will make their fans interested. The code mixing, which is employed in this case involve words or phrases identified as woman language. The data were taken from documented captions, which accompany the Influencers with the most people love their photos from Indonesia. The data focuse on Indonesian clauses or sentence mixed by English language. The result of study demonstrates that code mixing in the captions is the woman language features; empty adjective, special color terms, hashtags, polite form and sweet clossing, used by women but commonly avoided by men. In this case, those features as a certain group with distinctive language features. Internal and external factors determine the process of certain language features to be a marker of the group as well.
Homonymy Analysis in Taylor Swift’s Songs
This research aims to determine the types of ambiguous words and the meanings of ambiguous words in Taylor Swift's songs. The researcher uses Ullmann's theory to determine the type of ambiguous word. The research design is a qualitative research. The research instrument is the researcher himself. The data sources for this study are the audio and lyrics of Taylor Swift's songs The data of this study are ambiguous words contained in Taylor Swift's songs. In collecting the data, the researcher applies the non-participant observation method and the note taking technique as a follow-up technique. Data analysis conducts the referential method with the language references as the determinant. The researcher finds out homonyms in the songs whose meanings were not related and the actual meanings matched the context in the song lyrics. This research also focuses on homograph and homophone.
An Analysis of Syntactic Structure of Coordination on The English Translation of Surah Al-Mulk
This study is about Syntactic Structure of Coordination on the English Translation of Surah Al-Mulk. The purposes of this research are to find out the types of constituents to form syntactic structure of coordination on the English Translation of Surah Al-Mulk and to explain the distribution of syntactic structure of coordination on the English Translation of Surah Al-Mulk. The data is formed as sentences having syntactic structure of coordination on the English Translation of Surah Al-Mulk. Method of the research in this study is analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method. To collect the data, the writer used documentation method. The steps to analyze the data are reading, collecting, and numbering the data. To analyze the data, the writer uses structural grammar. The main theory applied in this study is the theory of Syntax proposed by Francis (1957). The result of the analysis shows that: 1) the types of constituents being combined are categorized in three groups: words which are noun, adjective, verb, and to infinitive; phrase which is noun phrase; and clauses which are independent clause and dependent clause, and 2) the distribution of syntactic structures of coordination on The English Translation of Surah Al-Mulk analyzed based on its function in word, phrase and sentence: two functions in words: as head and as modifier; one function in phrase: as modifier and one function in sentence/clause: as predicate.
Peribahasa Mentawai: Kajian Bentuk Dan Makna
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan bentuk dan makna peribahasa Mentawai Dusun Pariok, Desa Muntei Kecamatan Siberut Selatan Kabupaten Kepulauan Mentawai, agar anggota masyarakat mengetahui bentuk peribahasa Mentawai dan memahami maknanya. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Sumber data adalah anggota masyarakat yang menetap di Desa Muntei. Teknik pengumpulan data adalah teknik wawancara, teknik rekam, teknik simak dan catat, serta teknik transkripsi, kemudian data divalidasi melalui triangulasi sumber dan teori. Analisis data menggunakan teknik reduksi data, penyajian data, dan menarik kesimpulan. Bentuk peribahasa Mentawai, meliputi peribahasa bersumber dari tumbuhan, hewan, anggota tubuh manusia, dan sifat manusia. Makna peribahasa Mentawai adalah makna yang diterima oleh masyarakat pemakainya didasari adanya hubungan ujaran dan situasi, kata dengan bendanya, hubungan peristiwa dengan kenyataannya.
Flouting Maxim of Quality in Situational Comedy ‘Lapor Pak’
This research conducted on flouting quality maxim uttered by the actors and actress in the Lapor Pak Comedy. The problems of the research are: (1) What floutings forms of quality maxim are gone through by the actors and actress in Lapor Pak Comedy? (2) What are the reasons of the actors/actress flouted the maxims of quality? The purposes of this research are: (1) To identify forms of flouting quality maxims sustained by actors/actress in Lapor Pak Comedy (2) To describe the contextual meanings which are used by the actors/actress who flouted the maxims of quality. Descriptive qualitative method had been used in this research. This research used theory of Grice (1975). The results of this study are as follows that there 13 data have found and flouting quality maxim divided into four forms. They are Flouting maxim quality in Mocking dialogue, Flouting maxim quality in Wordplay dialogue, Flouting maxim quality in Babble dialogue, and Flouting maxim quality in Accuse Without Evidence dialogue. The reason that was flouting quality maxim often used in this comedy is giving humor.
The Implication of Teachers’ Politeness Strategy In Teaching on Higher Institution
This research aims to explain the types of politeness strategies used by teachers and students in class interactions, how these strategies are manifested in actions in class interactions and pedagogical functions of politeness strategies. The subjects in this study are teachers and students who used politeness strategies as many as 52 students and one teacher in the learning and teaching process. The research is a qualitative research. Data collected through observation and interviews. The results showed that is used by students to talk to the teacher when the meaning of speech is conveyed implicitly. There are four pedagogic functions in politeness strategies, namely giving the distance between teacher and students, atmosphere in class, reducing student tension, and making social interaction between teacher and students.
An Analysis of Speech The Presidential Candidates Debate of United States in 2020
This research aims to see the impact caused by candidates presidential of United States in 2020 in use of speech acts, where an utterance contains pragmatic meanings to make the listener do what speaker wants through speech, such as statements, orders, offers, thanks and the forms of speech that had have direct effect is like punishing. This analysis is included in pragmatic theory so that it is useful to increase the knowledge of readers from linguistic circles. In speech act theory, this research focuses on the theory based on Austin (1962) then for the illocutionary acts based on Searle (1979).
The researcher applies a qualitative description method to collecting data by Djajasudarma (2006), method to analyze data this research applies a pragmatic equivalent method by Sudaryanto (1993), technique to collecting data researcher applies theory of Djajasudarma (2006), including: tapping records, note-taking techniques. The researcher applies technique of analyze data called the determining element sorting technique by Sudaryanto (1993).
There are 309 utterances or 100% of a whole data, while illocutionary acts are further grouped into five parts, they are assertive type as many as 184 utterances or equivalent to 59% then directive type as many as 70 utterances or 22%, then the commissive type with 49 utterances or 15%, followed by the expressive type with 5 utterances or 1.6% and the declarative type with at least 1 utterance or about 0.3% and last perlocutionary acts found in this data were 139 or equivalent to 44%.
Speech Acts Analysis Used in Jac Schaeffer’s Wandavision
This research is pragmatic approach study an analysis of speech act used in Jac Schaeffer's Wandavision. The objectives of this researcher are to find out the types of illocutionary acts are performed by all the characters utterance, and to find out the types of illocutionary act dominantly used in Jac Schaeffer's wandavision. The researcher used descriptive-qualitative method to describe and analyze the selected of illocutionary acts which are watching movie and then classifies them according to George Yule’s and Yan Huang's concept types of illocutionary acts. Technique of collecting the data are (1) downloading the movie and movie script of Jac Schaffer’s Wandavision, (2) watching the movie while correcting the script based on the movie (3) taking notes which types of speech act were used in it (4) groups the speech act that occur based on Searle’s and Huang’s theory about speech act. The researcher used descriptive analysis which focus on classifying the types of illocutionary acts and the types of illocutionary acts used in Jac Schaeffer’s Wandavision carried out by all the character.
The researcher found 165 speech acts in all episodes of the Wandavision series, namely 33 representative speech acts, 17 commissive speech acts, 79 directive speech acts , 3 declarative speech acts, and 33 expressive speech acts. The most dominantly used type of illocutionary act in Wandavision series is directive speech act consisting of 79 utterances with percentage of 47.88%.
A Linguistic Analysis of Humor Found in It Crowd Sitcom
This study aims to analyze the Semantic Mechanism of Humor in the IT Crowd sitcom, and also to find out the deviations of the linguistic elements contained in the humor. In this study, the sources of data were humorous dialogues contained in the IT Crowd sitcom using descriptive methods. The results of the study show that the linguistic elements found in all the conversations in the sitcom including lexical ambiguity (LA), causal fallacy (CF), presupposition (Pr), locutionary (Lc), and topic progression (TP). In addition, a semantic mechanism of humor is also needed in this study because from this mechanism one can understand what causes humor to be funny. After understanding this mechanism, then we can know what linguistic expectations deviations are contained in the humor, and research shows that most humor occurs due to the appearance of unexpected meaning [M2] from what is expected [M1].
The Comparison Between Kerinci Siulak and Kerinci Rawang Dialect
The Kerinci dialect has various variations in almost every region. These dialects also have differences, both at the phonological and lexical levels between dialects. However, speakers and interlocutors understand each other when speaking in their respective dialects so that it does not prevent the Kerinci people from communicating with each other. The purpose of the research was to describe the differences in language variation between the Kerinci Siulak dialect and the Kerinci Rawang dialect. This research uses Jeff Siegel's theory of language and dialect variations. In reviewing the data of this study using qualitative methods, while data collection used interview methods with recording techniques. This research was conducted in Hamparan Rawang Village and in Siulak Village, Kerinci Regency with 5 informants. The results showed that based on the available data, in the Kerinci language, the Siulak dialect and the Rawang dialect, there are sounds which are phonemes that can be grouped into three groups, namely vowels, diphthongs, and consonants. The Siulak and Rawang dialects have 23 sounds, with 5 vowels, 10 consonants, and 8 diphthongs. The correspondence phonemes of the two dialects are 35 which are at the initial, middle and final syllable caused by geographical, sociocultural and social status factors.
An Analysis of Figurative Language in William Shakespeare’s Selected Poems
This study analyzes the figure of speech and the meaning contained in the lyrics of selected poetry by William Shakespeare. This research applies semantic theory, especially in figurative language. The theory used in analyzing figurative language is Alvius's theory (2003) the use of meaning in literary works. This study uses a deductive method. The analytical technique used in this study uses analytical techniques. The data collection technique used in this research is the observation technique followed by the note-taking technique. The results showed that the total figurative language used in William Shakespeare's selected poetry was 21 data. Data from figurative language includes 5 metaphorical data, 2 simile data, 2 personification data, 2 hyperbole data, 4 oxymoron data, and 6 polysemy data.
Penerapan Nilai-Nilai Karakter Melalui Pengajaran Bahasa Indonesia Dilingkungan Mahasiswa
Pendidikan karakter dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia perlu diterapkan kepada mahasiswa diperguruan tinggi. Penerapan pendidikan karakter dapat dilakukan melalui empat aspek keterampilan berbahasa, yaitu keterampilan berbicara, keterampilan menyimak, keterampilan membaca, dan keterampilan menulis. Seorang dosen dalam mengajarkan bahasa Indonesia di perguruan tinggi dapat menyisipkan nilai –nilai karakter melalui komunikasi saat proses belajar mengajar berlansung. Dosen dapat berperan sebagai model dalam merajut karakter bagi mahasiswa di perguruan tinggi. Ada pun peran seorang dosen dalam merajut karakter di perguruan tinggi adalah keteladanan, ispirator, motivator, dinamisator dan evaluator.
Rising Bilingual Children in Indonesian Context: Review of The Scientific Advantages
Bilingual education has become very popular among Indonesian children nowadays. Other than learning it from school, they are also exposed to the second language in their homes. Although some misconceptions persist in society, some parents continue to do so because they believe that bilingualism benefits their children's development, whether in the language or cognitive areas. This paper focuses on the common misconceptions spreading among parents. This research was specifically done based on literature review. Here, the five common myths about bilingualism on early childhood were answered based on scientific explanations given by experts. The finding indicates that being bilingual helps children have strong language development and executive functioning at the same time. Results are interpreted in the context of relevant research and explained based on the theories of some experts.
Transition Signals Used in Narrative Text
The purpose of this research is to find out types and the dominant one of transition signals used in narrative text. This research aimed to find out the use of transitional signals in narrative text specifically to find out the types of transitional signals and the accuracy of its use. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative by doing library research. The data were collected by analyzing the transition signal used in five narrative texts. The transitional signals that were analyzed are transitional signals for adding ideas and emphasizing, showing contrast and comparison, showing cause and effect, providing examples, introducing time order or sequence, and concluding or summarizing. The results shows that the transition signals used in narrative text are the transition signal indicates time, comparison, additional idea, and contrast. The dominant transition signal used the transition signal indicates additional idea. The findings shows that the transition signal used on the narrative text is developed in a single central theme.
